Blogathon 2009: Arts and crafts? Oh no!

Wooly Lemmings!

Want. Seriously.

I spent so much time playing Lemmings when I was younger. What an awesome game. June of PlanetJune has included crochet patterns and suggestions for accessories on her blog.

And to crocheters out there: what better than crocheted Lemmings to go with my Weighted Companion Cube? I mean, really.

C3YVR: CupCakeCampVancouver09

CupCakeCamp

Cupcakes may not be exactly as pictured.

There. That’s sort of a title, right? So yes, in just a few short hours, I will be attending CupCakeCampVancouver at Workspace in Gastown. While there, I will be eating cupcakes, looking at cupcakes, remembering cupcakes I’ve eaten in the past, and so on.

I hadn’t originally been able to get a ticket, but managed to snag one this afternoon from a generous participant who wasn’t able to make it himself. (Thanks again, M!) I’m looking forward to it.

So what is it? In CupCakeCamp’s own words:

What is CupcakeCamp Vancouver?

CupcakeCamp Vancouver is an event built on the ‘barcamp’ model, where people come together to share and eat cupcakes, and participate in cupcake tasting competitions! You don’t need to bake any cupcakes to participate, but there will be prizes awarded to the winners in the big cupcake competitions!

This event is not-for profit, and we will be donating all of the proceeds to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, an organization that provides a safe, supportive space for women and children in Vancouver’s downtown east side.

Neat.

If you can’t make it, this is naturally going to get some coverage on Twitter. Most of it will probably not consist of tweets of “om nom nom,” so it could actually be entertaining. (Don’t have Twitter? Sign up and follow @catherineomega and a massive bunch of other people, or use Twitter Search.)

To My Web 2.0 Valentine…

This is what we came up with at Social Signal for Valentine’s Day this year. It’s the perfect way to say “I love you” to that special someone with 800 pictures on Flickr. See? It’s not such a bad holiday after all!

Maki Mac Mitt!

Fear not, citizens! To better help me fight crime do my new job, I got a new MacBook Pro for work. It’s pretty shiny. And scratchable, by the looks of things. To protect its finish and maintain a sharp, professional image for meetings, it’s important to always travel with the MacBook secured inside a durable, padded sleeve. Also, the sleeve should have pictures of sushi on it.

Say it with me: “awwwww!”

Want your own? I ordered this spiffy, custom-made sleeve from Saltygal on Etsy.com. She makes super-cool stuff, and for very affordable prices. I’m going to order more. At random. It’ll be good.

(I’d also like to note that while the above photo was posed, it was not actually staged. I really was –and continue to be– that excited.)
